The Largo Band of Gold Alumni Association has announced the winners of the fourth annual Robert R. Cotter Memorial Scholarships. The quality of the applicants was so high this year that the scholarship committee decided to award two $1000 scholarships.

She recently graduated from Allen High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Principal's Advisory Council, the Ready Set Teach Intern Program, and Parent/Teacher/Student Association. She was a member of the All-Region concert band, Allen High School Full Orchestra, and was the Allen Eagle Escadrille Band Drum Major.
Brittany is active in the Girl Scouts of America and the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. She has received the PTSA Citizenship Award, Texas Music Educators Association Award, United States Achievement
Academy Award, and the Girl Scouts of America Silver and Bronze Service
Awards. Brittany will be attending Texas A&M University and hopes
to pursue a career in mathematics education.
Also receiving an award this year is Megan Lenore Larsen of Raleigh, North Carolina. Megan is the daughter of Mike and Kathy (Baker) Larsen (class of 1975). She recently graduated from Wake Christian Academy where she was a member the High School String Orchestra, National Beta Club, Tri M Music Honor Society, and Captain of the Cross Country team. This is perhaps the toughest of the entries I've made on this site to date. I know we have lost many of our associates in the past and although I don’t want to trivialize any of our fallen friends and family I would like to pay special tribute to Milton Bowsher. He joined our Lord last Friday after a prolonged battle following an automobile accident.
I had the pleasure of playing in the 1971-3 trumpet section in which Milton wielded an Eb trumpet on field and a Bb full sized horn in concert band. He was always full of energy and an all around great guy. I’ll never forget his passion and enthusiasm for the band and his leadership on and off the field.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Christ Fellowship, 5718 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 2 pm and a celebration of his life will begin at 2 pm. He will be buried at Florida National Cemetery privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions to be made to the Angel Fund at Christ Fellowship Church. To sign his guestbook, please see veteransfuneralcare.com. Veterans Funeral Care 727-524-9202

Rare Early Band of Gold Performance Now Available |

A rare recording of the 1971 Band of Gold has just been added to our multimedia page. This selection was recorded after the Band was awarded its first National Field Show Championship at the VFW convention in Dallas, the "Big D". The winning band was traditionally given the honor of performing their winning show and National Anthem as a segway to another phase of that convention. Prior to this performance, the Band experienced a grueling schedule of rehearsals and performances. Tired chops were the primary reason for a few uncharacteristic "splats" that may be noticed from this final performance of that trip.
